Curious President Podcast Ep. 5: NAIT helps a grad's business take flight

Mawji Centre helped Fly and Fetch get off the ground

The NAIT network can be a powerful thing.

In this episode of The Curious President podcast, we share the story of how a business started by a NAIT grad and a student got off the ground thanks to connections through the polytechnic's Mawji Centre for New Venture and Student Entrepreneurship.

Shelvie Fernan (Bachelor of Business Administration '18, Marketing '16) is the CEO of Fly and Fetch, the business she and then NAIT student Victoria Celi launched in 2019. The shipping company has a great story, stemming from Fernan's experience as an immigrant, and fills a need in the international shipping sector. Still, getting it from idea to company was no small feat.

At the Mawji Centre, the pair had access to business advice, pitch competitions, mentorship – everything young entrepreneurs might need to get going. How they made use of it and where it took them is the subject of this month’s episode. Listen on the YouTube (above), on Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts.
