10 things to do for Father's Day in and around Edmonton

Ideas inspired by the NAIT community

1. Fire up the barbecue

2. Enjoy a nature walk

Leave the stress of the city behind without having to stray too far from the city! Just keep a distance from other passersby.

3. Order a great meal

Skip the grilling and treat dad to a great meal from one of the dozens of Edmonton eateries still serving through takeout and curbside pickup. Not only are you supporting local, you're boosting businesses connected to NAIT culinary grads.

4. Make a bird feeder

It's the craft project that's a double winner! Not only do you get to spend quality time with dad building a bird feeder, you can also reap the benefits and enjoy birdwatching together!

5. Enjoy local craft beer

Fact: a lot of dads like beer. Why not enjoy locally made suds served by NAIT grads behind breweries such as Dog Island, the Growlery and Town Square?

6. Make a sourdough starter

Who isn't making their own bread these days? Yeast is still hard to find on grocery store shelves, but you don't need it if you've got a sourdough starter. NAIT's Baking program chair shares his go-to recipe.

7. Plant a maple tree together

Head to the garden centre and pick up a symbol of pride in the country, then turn that into a symbol of love for dad by working together to give it a home in your yard.

8. Cook together

As an alternative to barbecue or takeout, grab some fresh ingredients and make a Father's Day meal he and the kids will enjoy as much as they will making it together. Here are some great recipes.

9. Go camping
