Building a more sustainable Alberta

Entrepreneur Stephani Carter always wanted to make a difference to people and the environment

From a young age, Stephani Carter felt a responsibility to leave the world in a better state than she found it. As an entrepreneur, she does that in more ways than one.

Upon co-founding EcoAmmo in 2006, Carter filled a niche in the construction industry for higher building efficiency through better design. Today, the firm helps companies achieve international environmental certifications for their projects.

“When I started EcoAmmo, it was on the foundation of making a difference under sustainability,” says Carter (Interior Design Technology ’01). “Sustainability has reached a tipping point where it is built into business plans. Major corporations are now taking it seriously and they see the benefit.”

Carter also wants to have a positive impact in her own office, and help improve the lives of EcoAmmo employees. “I'm passionate about working with people and getting them to feel really valued because it's something that's lacking in most businesses,” she says.

To her, the satisfaction of those she works with and that of her clients is interconnected.

“My drive is to make a difference in the world of sustainability but how we do that is through making a difference in individuals lives."

“My drive is to make a difference in the world of sustainability but how we do that is through making a difference in individuals lives – making them feel like they’re contributing to best of their strengths. I just love seeing how people flourish and find themselves.”

Through that, Carter finds she can do her part to make her world a better place.

“If you just try something small, and then take another step and another step, it will all add up.”
